Sail training
If you want to learn to sail…
this is a great place to start! We think sailing is fun and exhilarating. Our training programs have been developed to provide absolute beginners with a safe introduction to dinghy sailing with family, friends and members. Start with the essential skills in the introductory 'Learn to Sail' (4 sessions). Progress to 'Keep Sailing' (a further 4 sessions). With more practice, and as advanced skills and techniques are gradually introduced, you'll love it out on the water with friends or solo sailing. After you've completing training we hope you'll want to continue to sail, and as your skills and confidence develops that you'll join our regular club racing each Saturday.
The club runs races most Saturdays throughout the season, and has a Junior/Novice division to cater for sailors transitioning from the Training program to club racing. You can build your knowledge and confidence by assisting with the running of the club race program; laying courses, taking finishing times, crew on safety boats and the like, all while ramping up your sailing knowledge and skills. Sailing is a weather dependent activity, it's not uncommon to have either too much or too little wind – especially for beginners. The club will do it's best to run the program as scheduled, however in the event of unsuitable conditions (weather or water) training may be postponed and rescheduled where possible, or cancelled if not practical to reschedule. In the event where it becomes necessary to cancel training sessions due to adverse conditions, the club will not refund membership fees paid. Participants engage in the program voluntarily and use their judgment based on information provided by club members running training sessions, as well as other sources, as to whether they are safe to do so. In the case of junior participants, their parents and/or guardians make that decision on their behalf.
