Your sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamentals of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a supervised and supported environment. 

For beginners of any age (children 8+ and adults are welcome).
Includes safety instruction, some sailing theory, rigging, boat launch and retrieval, with plenty on practice on the water.

Boats and safety gear supplied 
Bring suitable clothing and footwear.

Over four weeks the introductory training program covers;
• Preparing and planning to go sailing
• Rigging: setting up a boat to sail
• Working with ropes and knots
• Sailing techniques and basic skills
• Rescue and safety procedures
• Launching and retrieval of boats
• Sailing theory and principles
• Weather: Wind and waves

Rookie $360
Youth $280

NB: both include a one year club membership as either a Rookie (adult) or Youth.

When registering you will need to;

• Create an Australian Sailing number (unless you already have one)
• Join the club: choose Start Sailing - Training membership type
• Register for Start Sailing @ CCSC
• Select Registration type: either Rookie (adult) or Youth
• Confirm and make payment online

Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
