Eleven boats competed in perfect Spring conditions, 10–12 knot breeze from North–North East for the sailing of the First Club Championship heat and Spring Aggregate races.
If these results are anything to go by the Club Championship will be hotly contested. On corrected times, in a mixed fleet of monohulls and catamarans, Russell Denholm in his Impulse 'Beast' came in two seconds in front of Craig Ginnivan in a Finn 'Moves Like Jagger'. Craig being the club Champion for the past few years appears to have some competition! Third place to Mal McPherson in Impulse 'Bathsheba'.
There are eight races to be held over the season to determine the Championship.
In the 1st Spring Aggregate race,
Division 1. Mark Teasdale & Ralph Ballard in Hartly TS16 'Fox' first place in front of Ray Eastwood and Harvey Jones, both in Sabres.
Division 2, Russel Denholm in 'Beast', Mal McPherson in 'Bathsheba' and Steve Phillis in "Wilde Nots' first second and third placings all Impulse class dinghies.
Division 3. (Catamarans) Joey Norris & Steve Parson in F18 'Final Thrust' ahead of Glenn Weeks in Paper Tiger 'Aeroticat'.
A great day's racing officiated by Chas Thompson and Peter Wilcock, with Lorraine Thompson taking race times. Sail training was held in the morning in ideal conditions, with the previous season trainees happy to get back onto the water.
The next training program commences Saturday 3 November, information is available on the club website ccsc.org.au
