This week's report from the Cairn Curran Sailing Club is very brief.
The scheduled season opening event, the Commodore's Trophy race was abandoned due to the very light fluctuating winds, making it difficult to set and run a race that was fair for the competitors.
The event will be run later in the season when we can fit it into the schedule.
On the bright side, it was otherwise a great day, warm conditions and plenty of members turning out in anticipation, with a possible thirteen boats to compete. The club took the opportunity to conduct some rescue boat handling instruction for some members while waiting to see what the wind decided to do.
Several members took to the water, set a couple of rounding marks and completed short laps and tuning their boats and skills. Many members stayed on for a BBQ dinner in the evening, and some staying overnight at the clubhouse celebrating Brian Murphy's impending nuptials (next weekend). The other good news is that the clubhouse and equipment are all in good order and prepared for a busy season ahead.
Next weekend's weather looks very favourable with wind at approx. 25 kph.
