Cairn Curran Sailing Club - Training Programs
If you want to learn to sail, this is a great place to start!
We think sailing is fun and exhilarating. Our training programs have been developed to provide a safe introduction to dinghy sailing with family, friends and members from the club.
Starting with the essential skills in the introductory program 'Learn to Sail'.
As you progress to 'Keep Sailing' more advanced skills and techniques are gradually introduced, you'll just love being out on the water.
Learn to Sail
5 x 3 hour sessions fortnightly. 9:00am start
Next program commences Saturday 14 October 2017
Your sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamentals of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment. Intended for beginners from 7-8 year old upwards. Commencing with some theory, safety instruction, rigging practice, boat launch and retrieval, with plenty on practice on the water. Boats and safety gear supplied, bring suitable clothing and footwear.
Over five weeks the introductory training program covers;
• Preparing and planning to go sailing
• Rigging a boat
• Working with ropes and knots
• Sailing techniques and basic skills
• Rescue and safety procedures
• Launching and recovery of boats
• Sailing theory
• Wind and waves
It couldn't be easier, training boats are provided by the club at no cost!
While it is not essential to start with our 'Learn to Sail' program, it will be harder to master the more advanced skills if you are not familiar with the basics.
Register interest for 'Learn to Sail' training 2017–18 season
4 x 3 hour sessions 9:00am start
Commencing Saturday 3 February 2018
This program is ideal for the 'Learn to Sail' trainees building on the introductory course.
Your journey continues as you develop all of the fundamental sailing skills.
You are now equipped to sail our dinghies on your own voyages of discovery.
To encourage 'Keep Sailing' trainees to participate in the afternoon race program, the Club Sabots and Pacers are available for this purpose, it would be terrific to see trainees taking that next step. CCSC has introduced 'Gleenfleet' sailing activities to encourage greater participation.
